01 — About
A bit about me.
I'm Arvin Premlal, a Systems Design Engineering student at the University of Waterloo, studying human-centered design and the full tech stack,— from low-level systems to full interfaces people love. My most recent work was a co-op at the Ontario Ministry of Labour and Transportation, where I led UX design for a $32M government platform and shaped product direction through deisgn, UX, and development.

Where I've been.
UX Designer
Ontario Ministry of Labour and Transportation
January 2026 – April 2026 · St. Catharines, ON- ✦ Drove portal modernization and design of the $32M Highway Corridor Management System (HCMS), creating Angular web interfaces, designs, and workflows compliant with AODA and the Ontario Design System.
- ✦ Supported strategic analysis for Integrated Employment Services (IES) by identifying SSM API inefficiencies and defining streamlined workflows using DABL methodology, reducing data fragmentation and operational overhead.
- ✦ Led user research for Request an Appointment with a Service Provider (RASP), conducting interviews and usability testing, synthesizing findings into actionable insights that informed a full system redesign.
Private Tutor & Developer
Prem Tutoring
June 2022 – Present · Brampton, ON- ✦ Delivered personalized tutoring in Mathematics, English, and Sciences to 300+ students (K–12), improving academic performance by an average of 12% over a six-month term.
- ✦ Conducted regular progress evaluations and designed adaptive lesson plans for diverse learning styles, including strategies for students with learning disabilities (ADHD, dyslexia).
- ✦ Built a full-stack web application using vanilla JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Supabase (PostgreSQL + cloud storage) for managing and distributing educational worksheets.
03 — Projects
Some of my work.
Sty1eZone
October 2023 – PresentCo-created a fashion-tech platform built with React 19 + Vite, featuring a Pinterest-style masonry board, multi-user authentication with persistent sessions, and a real-time AI styling assistant powered by Groq. Engineered a component-driven architecture with image upload via the FileReader API, per-profile chat persistence, and a category/search filtering pipeline — progressively tested and refined through a community of 100+ users.
3D Modelling and Assembly
2024Designed a three-layer mechanical model inspired by a Russian nesting doll, featuring a goose, egg, and chick structure that reveals inner components through sequential disassembly. Pin and interlocking mechanisms were modeled in SolidWorks to allow each layer to open via applied force or pin release. Components were then prepared and 3D printed using Zortrax Z-Suite, achieving high dimensional accuracy and a smooth fit between layers.
PTD — Prem Tutoring Database
2022 – PresentA full-stack web application for managing and distributing educational worksheets to 300+ students. Built with vanilla JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Supabase (PostgreSQL + cloud storage) for persistent data and file management across a growing student base.
Classroom App
2024Created a functional, visually compelling Figma prototype for a mobile classroom application. Balanced a refined aesthetic with practical usability for both students and instructors, applying user-centered design principles from the UofT UX Labs certification.
